Publisher's summary

A kingdom fallen. A queen victorious. The return to a past long since abandoned....

With Damian trapped in the Abyss, Nixie ventures to a lost city in search of a powerful artifact known as the Eye of Atlantis. By harnessing its ancient magic, she may have a chance to undo what was done by Nudd.

But the path to the Eye is wrought with danger. Hidden at the bottom of the sea, it remains heavily guarded in the ruins of a forgotten city. Unfathomable creatures stand in her way, yet the true threat may lie with the Fae themselves.

It’s war the Unseelie Fae want. To protect her family, it’s time for Nixie to show them why the water witches are to be feared.

Very cool imagery and history in this side story

Much like the other recent novellas (Claw and Ghost) this continues the Vesik timeline, but centered on a member of the supporting cast. In this case it is the Sea Witch and love interest Nixie.
Asher provides settings and lore surrounding this watery civilization while tying into the history of the fae and the commoners.
While I miss hearing William Dufris narrating and providing the voices of these characters, I thought Erin Moon really stepped up in this and the other novellas. It felt especially fitting for Book of the Sea.

Well done on all aspects!

I love Nixie

Nixie is one of my favorite characters from the Vesik series. She is a total badass and this story shows just how powerful she truly is. Nixie's story takes a look back at Atantis and just how far Nixie and the undines have come. The Book of the Sea is my favorite of the novellas.

Eric Moon is a FANTABULOUS narrator. Seriously, she is amazing!

The Book of the Sea

The Book of the Sea by Eric R Asher
Vesik book 11. Urban fantasy. Best read as part of the series in order.
Nixie searches for ways to help Damian. She travels to Atlantis in search of an artifact but must fight against dangerous creatures just to stay alive.

Non stop action and danger. Gripping and suspenseful. Damian’s friends are true and committed to trying to help him.

I listened to this via Audiobook. It’s a wonderful performance and the first I felt was truly a book about Nixie and not a Damian extension. Of course, it is about Damian but here Nixie stood out as powerful and important.

Nixie is all I have hoped for!

For those of us who've been waiting for more of Nixie, this book did not disappoint. It was moving, powerful, and felt very personal. This is a strong female lead and very formidable but, she's also vulnerable and more than open to change. I loved getting to see what she's capable of.

Full of action and old grudges, it seems the Queen has a lot of work to do to bring her people into the new age/way of thinking. Quite a few surprises in this book to keep us on our toes.

As it's a time of war, there really isn't much light to this series. It's pretty dark and emotional. I'm always relieved to see the allies make appearances, even just to know that they live. Each book brings a new set of obstacles to overcome. You will cheer and hold your breath and, before you know it, the book is read and you'll be impatiently awaiting the next installment! Each book is better than the last. Really can't wait to see what the next book brings...Zola??? Yes, please!

I love how the narrator brings this series to vivid life!

FINALLY!!!

NIXIE!!! Finally, we get to learn so much more about the new Queen of the Water Witches. We were introduced to Nixie early in the adventures, and she struck me as a rather vapid, ditsy sort. Over the last 4 books, she has shown that she is far from a mindless cute "girl" and is one seriously kick ass warrior, wholly deserving of the title of Queen. We have known she was from Atlantis, but it was always just mentioned, never revealed. NOW we know, NOW we have seen, and NOW we understand. Honestly, I keep thinking these books can't get any better, and once again, Eric proves me wrong. Erin Moon does a masterful job with this one, picking up the task of bringing these characters to life in the middle of the story, and taking over from one of my all time favorite audiobook narrators. Happiness is spending time with Vesik and his "crew".

All hail Queen Nixie!

Nixie is one kick butt queen! And her love for Damien shines through all she does. If only we could visit Atlantis on person to see its many treasures. Old enemies and new allies abound in the latest addition in the Vesik tales.

Erin Moon does an amazing job bringing all the characters to life.

Fantastic

As usual Eric has given a great story. I'm in love with the novella's told by each person's perspective in this battle to save Damien. I can't wait to listen to the rest.
