Great Lakes Book Bash 2015

October 11, 2015 By Eric R. Asher Leave a Comment

The journey home from ‪‎GLBB‬ is past. The ring has been cast into the fires of Mount Doom. I’m half dead from spending yesterday evening with the likes of Stacey Rourke and Julie Cassar and a slew of hilariously intoxicated authors, but it was a good half-death. Sadly, no eagles came to carry us home. We had to drive today.

The last convention of the year is DONE. Fourteen may have been a little over the top.

Some highlights:

Lisa from Penny for My Thoughts Book Blog scared up some local bourbon and brought me a bottle. WE ARE THE BESTEST OF FRIENDS NOW.

glbb15-01

I finally met Toni from My Book Addiction in real life. She’s awesome. So glad she made the drive out!

glbb15-05

The hotel bar had amazing food. It was a serious WHAT IS THIS DARK MAGIC moment.

Casey and Rachael put together a fun event, and I hope they do it again.

As always, it was great to meet more readers face to face, and I look forward to the next time. Not to mention seeing familiar faces again (Ahem, James and Jenell and all of you wonderful folks). Well, as long as I can get some sleep first.

Archon 2015

October 3, 2015 By Eric R. Asher Leave a Comment

Spent some time at ‪Archon‬ today. It’s a fantastic SF/F convention just outside Saint Louis.

I lucked out and caught a Harlan Ellison panel, of which one of my author friends, Van Allen Plexico, was on as well. Harlan has no problems whatsoever speaking his mind, and it made for quite an entertaining hour. After that I had the opportunity to meet Glen Cook and pick up some of his work.

Had a blast talking to some local authors too including T.W. Fendley, Brad Cook, Elizabeth Donald, Jim Gillentine, Jay Noel, and several more.

I bought more books because my TBR wasn’t insane enough already …

DragonCon 2015 Recap Day Four

September 10, 2015 By Eric R. Asher Leave a Comment

We had a great panel on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but sadly neglected Rocket and Groot until the end. The day wrapped up at a Forever panel. I loved Forever, as did the surprising number of folks attending our late Monday panel.

I spent much of the day stalking other panels and saying goodbye to some truly awesome people.

I felt like a stranger to everyone when I walked into DragonCon, but by the end of it, I felt like I’d gained a new family.

Dragon Con 2015 Recap Day Three

September 9, 2015 By Eric R. Asher Leave a Comment

The day started with a Flash panel and then a Monster Within panel where we discussed Black Widow, Hulk, and overused the word “dichotomy.”

Then came the ‪#‎iZombie‬ panel. One of the audience members tweeted to Rahul Kohli (he plays Ravi on iZombie). Next thing you know, Rahul Skyped in and joined the panel! He was gracious enough to answer a few questions, and needless to say, we were all excited to hear from him! In fact I told some folks about it more than once (sorry). And Rahul then Skyped in and … 😉 This crazy ass moment actually landed us in a CNN article!

03-001

I went to the bar after that wrapped up to meet my friend Rocky and author Len Berry. We wound up next to Myke Cole (who’s books rocketed to the top of my TBR this week) and were later joined by more people than I can remember. Cherie Priest is completely hilarious though, an absolute freight train of energy. I love her books and I love her personality. I had a chance to meet Amber Benson, and she’s incredibly friendly and patient with people. Carrie Vaughn showed up in a Robotech uniform. Let me repeat that, Carrie Vaughn showed up in a ROBOTECH UNIFORM. We geeked out over 80’s cartoons and shows for, well, let’s say a long time. Carrie’s written some G.I. Joe stories too. Go on to Amazon and buy them. Buy them now.
